The issue was reported by Android Police on Friday (9) and in complaints posted on Google’s forum and Reddit since the beginning of April — before the stable version of Chrome 136 was released on the 29th.
In a Reddit post, a user reported that the browser freezes on Windows even with few tabs open after an update, without specifying the version.
Dias after, in another topic, a MacBook owner reported that he tried to install the latest version of the browser but couldn’t open it on his computer.
On the social network, others have reported problems running version 136 of the browser on Android.
On the Chrome help platform, a user posted on Tuesday (6) that they got the “Cannot open Chrome. Try again” error when opening the browser, even after reinstalling the latest version.
The case was observed on two Windows 11 computers, both with Chrome 136, on Thursday (8). On one of them, the browser presented slowness and even froze completely.
It was necessary to force the browser to close and reopen it after some crashes. The case repeated itself at different times throughout the day, even with fewer tabs open. Moreover, there were no extensions installed on the browser of the device.
