2025-03-25Google‘s Gemini AI platform is integrated into some Gmail features, helping to summarize and write emails, suggest responses, and facilitate search. However, not all users appreciate the quick access to AI — but you can easily disable it.
How to disable Gemini on Gmail
The process to remove AI resources from Gemini is slightly different on the computer and app.
On the computer
Follow these steps to disable Gemini on your PC:
- Access Gmail (gmail.com);
- Click on the Settings icon;
- Select “Show all settings”;
- Scroll down and go to “Manage smart features settings”;
- Disable the feature;
- Click “Save”.

On the app
On the app, the process is:
- Access the Gmail app (Android | iOS);
- Open the side menu;
- Go to Settings;
- Tap on your email address;
- Scroll down to “Smart features”;
- Uncheck the resources you want to disable.

What AI features does Gmail have?
The AI tools in Gmail are:
- Email summary: summarizes long emails with key points. The summary button appears below the email title;
- Email writing: allows you to command Gemini to write an email based on your input. The feature appears as “I need help writing” in the email body or with the “Alt + H” command;
- Suggested responses: suggests phrases or words like “Thank you” or “Received” based on the email you received. Appears when you click to respond to an email;
- Information search: facilitates searching for emails based on specific information. Simply type in the search bar.
Who has access to these resources?
The Gemini features in Gmail are available to AI Premium plan subscribers of Google One (R$ 96.99 per month) and Google Workspace users.
